When Argentina faced England in the quarterfinal of the 1986 World Cup, Diego Armando Maradona produced one of the tournament’s most enduring goals.
In that game, Maradona used his hand to flick the ball over goalie Peter Shilton and into the goal, going unnoticed by the referee.
The goal was scored “a bit with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God,” according to Argentine football legend afterward.
Maradona scored another incredible goal four minutes after the first one when he made a run from his half and sprinted past five English players to make a shot that the goalie let go.
Mario Gotze vs. Argentina at the 2014 final
With his winning goal for Germany against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final, Mario Gotze became a household name.
Germany won the 2014 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro thanks to a goal from Gotze in the extra period of the match.
Following a run down the left side, Andre Schurrle crossed to him from the wing. Gotze volleyed the ball across the goal with his left foot after chesting the ball down to the edge of the box.
Before the end of regular time, Gotze had replaced the original player.

Robin van Persie vs. Spain in 2014
One of the best World Cup moments was Robin van Persie’s bounding header against Spain from the edge of the box.
Van Persie, also known as the Flying Dutchman, stunned the football crowd with a spectacular diving header in the Netherlands’ 5-1 victory over Spain. Left-back Daley Blind provided the assist.

Igor Belanov vs. Belgium in 1986
One of the best World Cup moments was Robin van Persie’s bounding header against Spain from the edge of the area.

Ronaldo vs. Germany in 2002
Ronaldo In the 2002 World Cup final, Luis Nazario de Lima, better known by his stage name Ronaldo, scored eight goals, including two as the Selecao prevailed 2-0 to claim the championship.
In minute 66, the opening goal was scored. Before Oliver Kahn’s ability to recover, Ronaldo, who had pursued Rivaldo’s long shot, took advantage of Kahn’s unbalance to score on the rebound into the bottom corner.
After 13 minutes, Jose Kleberson passed to Rivaldo, who allowed the ball to pass through his legs while standing on the right side of the penalty arc.

Escobar’s own goal in 1994
Colombian athlete Andres Escobar was fatally shot on July 2, 1994, marking one of the saddest days in sports history.
Escobar, the Colombian national team’s captain, was assassinated 10 days after scoring their own goal against the United States team in a match that ended in a 2-1 loss during the group stage, helping to send his nation home from the competition.

Roberto Baggio vs. Czechoslovakia in 1990
Roberto Baggio of Italy scored a stunning goal against then-Czechoslovakia in the 1990 World Cup in Italy after making a run from his half.
Baggio disengaged two players, deflected a challenge, undressed defender Ernst Aigner, and then slid the ball into the goal.
The forward was crucial to the team’s 2-0 victory.

Iniesta vs. Netherlands in the 2010 final
Andres Iniesta of Spain, widely known as El Ilusionista, scored the game-winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa against the Netherlands.
When Iniesta was on the right side of the penalty area, Cesc Fabregas passed the ball to him.
Before putting the ball past goalie Maarten Stekelenburg and into the corner of the net, Iniesta took a single touch.

In their first appearance in the competition in the United States in 1994, Saudi Arabia made it to the knockout round.
