5 Dubai restaurants that have been awarded Michelin stars

In an historic moment in Dubai culinary history, five restaurants have been awarded the first ever Michelin stars in the Middle East. It’s the culmination of years of hard work by some of Dubai’s finest chefs, and its validation of what many locals already knew – that there’s incredible food to be found in this city. From molecular gastronomy to coastal seafood, these are five Dubai restaurants that have been awarded Michelin stars and are sure to leave you with delicious memories long after your meal has ended!

1) Okra Cookhouse

Okra Cookhouse is a restaurant in the heart of Jumeirah, serving high-end Indian cuisine. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor was one of the first chefs to be awarded a Michelin star for his cooking back in 1994 and continues to produce delicious, memorable dishes at Okra Cookhouse. The restaurant is famous for its Murgh Korma, which is cooked overnight on slow heat to achieve the perfect texture and taste. The restaurant also has a large tea selection with over 40 different types from around the world and an extensive wine list with more than 1000 wines from all over the world.

2) Two Fives Pie & Mash

Dubai is the first city in the Middle East to host Michelin-starred restaurants.

Located in the Emirates Towers, Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée is a two-Michelin-star restaurant offering French cuisine with an Arabic twist. Chef Alain Ducasse honed his skills as a teenager at L’Auberge de l’Ill in France and has since become one of the most celebrated chefs in the world. His restaurant makes use of fresh ingredients from around Europe, creating fusion dishes like Belgian Lobster with squash puree and black truffle cauliflower cream or Cow’s Milk Custard with elderberry jelly and apple gelée.

3) Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Restaurant

The first Michelin-starred restaurant in the Middle East, Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Restaurant has a reputation for offering five-star dining with a jaw-dropping view of the sea. Located on the ground floor of the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel, this is an experience not to be missed.

The menu includes dishes such as grilled squid and octopus carpaccio served with tomato caponata, or roasted duck breast served with balsamic jus and apple compote; while they also offer a range of seafood dishes such as seared scallops served with lobster sauce or pan fried day boat fish.

4) Clove Club

The Clove Club is a restaurant in London. It was recently awarded two Michelin stars. The two-star rating means it is one of the best restaurants in London and is regularly ranked among the world’s top 50.

The Clove Club’s menu features British cuisine with influences from other cultures, such as Indian and Thai cuisines. The restaurant currently has an eight-course tasting menu, with dishes including cauliflower, celery, and rye; and broccoli, turnips and whey.

Clove Club offers breakfast for £35 per person (£25 for children), lunch for £55 per person (£45 for children) and dinner for £75 per person (£65 for children).

5) Al Mahara at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi

Al Mahara, the restaurant at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, has been awarded three Michelin stars. This is the first time any Middle Eastern country has ever received a star from the prestigious guidebook. The chef behind Al Mahara is Irishman Kevin Thornton, who took over as executive chef in November last year. His signature dish is lobster with saffron and passionfruit butter sauce. We’re delighted to be recognised by such an august organisation, said Thornton in an interview with The National newspaper. The award is confirmation of what we’ve always felt – that we provide great food.
